Hello,
My Diffusion project will focus on Cloud Computing.
Cloud computing has been touted as the next big innovation in the technology arena. This technological solution offers companies a cost effective way to store mass amounts of data on an off-site storage system that is maintained by a third party. Consequently, this system allows companies to expand and reach capacity without having to further invest in new infrastructure. Recently, the cloud was only used by government agencies, universities and research facilities; however, more companies are beginning to promote cloud computing services. According to Waxler (2008) by the year 2012, there will be 80% usage by Fortune 1000 companies and 30% of them will pay for cloud computing infrastructure. Additionally, this system offers users personal access and syncing capabilities to any data they have stored on their personal electronics. Moreover, this innovation has the potential to change the way education is delivered and accessed by students. According to Cruz (n.d.) cloud offers students around the world full access to curriculum content online and other open resources, such as video libraries and possibly free textbooks. Amazingly, this system could offer nontraditional adult students that haven’t attended college or graduated from high school the option to work while going to school or obtain their GED online, respectively. Unfortunately, this technology has not been adopted at the rate of speed everyone thought it would be, because of the lack of security and privacy issues. However, researchers are working to find solutions to the security and privacy issues. For instance, a recent study focused on “how virtualization can increase the security of cloud computing, by protecting Cloud Computing 3 the integrity of guest virtual machines and the cloud infrastructure components” (Lombardi & Di Pietro, 2011). Moreover, the researchers created a simulation test with two systems that would secure the cloud, while they mimicked multiple attacks on the system. Consequently, the authors were able to observe through successful trial tests the overall effectiveness of these two systems. Finally, I chose this innovation over the others because of the benefits this technology can have on our day to day lives both personally and professionally. This system will allow worldwide users access to education, books, and other open source products free of charge. Additionally, I believe researchers and innovators will find the solution needed to combat the issues of privacy and security. Once the security and privacy issues are no longer a problem, I believe this innovation will diffuse more quickly because of its scalability and compatibility, as well as the benefits it brings to higher education. Hi Cynthia
I watched your video and I think you did an excellent job explaining the use of cloud computing. Until I watched your video I had no idea that I use cloud computing almost everyday. I can tell you did much research on your topic and I really enjoyed your video.
